Repeat of 2003?
Downtown Chicago's office market vacancy rose throughout the fourth
quarter, according to NAI Hiffman’s Office Market Research
Group. The overall vacancy rate increased from 16.05% in September
to 16.85% in December on negative absorption of just over 1 million
square feet. The outlook for 2004 calls for a repeat of 2003 with
slow growth and some retrenchment. However, not all is doom and
gloom: sublease space has declined in both the suburbs and downtown.”
The suburban vacancy rate increased slightly, from 23.26% at the
end of the third quarter, to 23.41% at the end of the fourth quarter,
due in part to new vacancies in the East-West Corridor from Spiegel
and BP, according to the NAI Hiffman report. Click
